Smoking and DVT
Cigarette smoking increases blood clotting (hypercoagulability).
one of Three factors which increase the chance of having a DVTwhich is
Injury to a deep vein from trauma or surgery
Poor blood circulation in the deep veins
Conditions that increase the tendency of blood to clot

It is difficult to be certain which abnormalities both clearly result from smoking and also clinically increase the risk for venous thrombosis. Some, particularly the D-dimer level, are more likely to simply represent markers of thrombosis.
